Why Legal Cannabis is the Safer Choice: Health Canada Reports

Health Canada releases first results from cannabis data gathering program from legal and illegal markets

Health Canada's recent Cannabis Data Gathering Program has shed light on the significant differences between legal and illegal cannabis products. The study found that illegal cannabis often contains harmful contaminants, including:

  • Pesticides: 94% of illegal samples contained multiple pesticides, averaging 3.4 different types per sample.
  • Mycotoxins: Detected in several illegal samples, these toxins are produced by certain molds and can pose serious health risks.
  • Microbial Contaminants: Illegal products showed significantly higher levels of harmful bacteria, some associated with respiratory infections.

Legal cannabis products undergo rigorous testing, to ensure they meet strict safety standards, resulting in significantly lower levels of these contaminants.

However, the results are not exactly flattering to the legal market either and emphasizes how hard clean cultivation really is. We demand Health Canada to publish the names of the producers that failed these tests.

Here at Lolly, we are very passionate about clean cultivation practices and do our best to ensure the products we carry meet our expectations.
